Fragments and sounds from Kodwo Eshun’s classic More Brilliant Than the Sun, which turns 20 this year.

Twenty years after its first publication – and only a few months before its first reissue via Verso Books – Kodwo Eshun’s seminal More Brilliant Than the Sun remains one of the most inventive books ever written about pop culture. Connecting the dots between Sun Ra, Lee Perry, Kool Keith and Underground Resistance, Eshun follows the network of afrofuturism that runs through the foundation of global subcultures. Coinciding with our month-long tribute to Black History Month, Adam Harper revisits Eshun’s classic, presenting some of its most memorable passages alongside the tracks that inspired them. On top of that, we’ll hear brand new music from the most colorful corners of the www, courtesy of Klein, 700 Bliss, Weird Magic and more.
