With a DIY ethos that sets her apart from her major-label peers, la reina del neoperreo makes her triumphant return to our NYC studio.

Two years ago, Tomasa Del Real made her debut on Red Bull Radio as a bedroom-based reggaetonera, carving out a new sound for a younger generation of like-minded artists who’ve found community in digital spaces. During that broadcast she coined the term “neoperreo,” christening a nascent movement that’s reinventing the sounds of the genre. A tattoo artist and former design student from Iquique, Chile, Del Real connected with Ulises Lozano, of the legendary rock band Kinky, which led to introductions and collaborations with industry vets like Toy Selectah and DJ Blass. On this month’s broadcast, she reunites with Riobamba and Uproot Andy in the NYC studio to discuss her latest album Bellaca del Año, and perform a few choice tracks from the release.
