Zack Fox’s new favorite ATL rapper on signing to J. Cole’s Dreamville imprint and graduating from the XXL 2018 Freshman Class.

A newly minted member of XXL’s Freshman 10, J.I.D’s music sounds like “chicken grease… bubblin’.” In the six years since the release of his debut mixtape Route of All Evil, the Atlanta MC graduated from jobs at a call center and Domino’s Pizza to a record deal with J Cole’s Dreamville label. His lyrically driven 2017 LP The Never Story stands in stark contrast to much of the output of his peers, in both Atlanta and in the mainstream. On this episode of Bruh, Zach Fox talks to the ascendant MC about creative celibacy, writing movies and the isolation of going against the grain.
