A mesmerizing hour of ambient drone sounds from the Norwegian sound artist and composer.
Growing up on the edge of the dark Norwegian forest on the outskirts of Oslo might go some way to explaining the mood in a lot of André Bratten’s tracks. But then, getting lost amid the chaos of analogue modules and patch bay cables seems a walk in the park in contrast. Taking a childhood love of hip hop as the starting point to explore everything from Led Zeppelin to library records, his broad tastes soon led him to all kinds of electronic masters, and kindled a full-on synth love affair. Shortly his productions caught the ear of Prins Thomas, leading to Bratten’s debut release, the double 12” album Be A Man You Ant on Full Pupp. Nodding to the spaced-out disco sound of Prins Thomas, Lindstrøm and Todd Terje while still twisting the templates, Bratten’s tracks suggest a producer who is happy to take his own path. His Choice Mix contains long drawn out ambient melodies, almost like the soundtrack to an epic walk into the wilderness.
