The UK producer and Planet Mu affiliate blends original material, instrumental grime and broken techno to doom-laden effect.
A veteran of UK pirate radio, working within sounds such as grime, jungle, drum and bass, hardcore and techno, East Man is the new project of Anthoney Hart, formerly known as Basic Rhythm. As East Man, his recordings moved into a more freeform abstract compositional structures: breaking grime down to its steely fundamentals; bringing in influences from dancehall, drum and bass and techno. For his 2018 album on Planet Mu, Red, White & Zero, his sound merges with the voices of the MCs he works with (his own name for this hardcore continuum mongrel is Hi Tek). For his Choice Mix, East Man’s technique of finding stylistic commonalities sets its sights on grime and broken techno.
