The Detroit producer is a pioneer of sludge, the micro scene about to make waves outside of the Motor City.
As part of Red Bull Music’s Movement special, we shine a light on the artists shaping the city today — that includes Shady P, a young Detroiter with a bright future that spans beyond just the norms of house and techno. Shady P is one of the three pioneers of the current style of Detroit sludge, a slow-tempo mix of ghetto tech, industrial and acid house. Seen as the fifth wave in the evolution of Detroit Techno, Shady P produces sludge’s raw, unfiltered menacing sounds. In addition to his releases on Breed Records, Magnitizdat Tapes and How to Kill Records, Shady P began releasing on his own imprint the Catholic Press in 2015.
