Kelly Moran

Timothy Saccenti

Blurring the lines between experimental, ambient and classical music, the pianist discusses her new LP for Warp Records.

Kelly Moran’s recently released sophomore album, Ultraviolet, is an arresting study in the ways prepared piano can create vibrantly hypnotic music. It’s not a new technique by any means, but Moran excels at creating involved pieces with minimal resources, placing her in a long and illustrious lineage of New York City experimentalists. She’ll be joining Sam Hockley-Smith in the studio to talk about her formal training, getting signed to Warp and other topics, and spin for us some of the music she’s been listening to lately.
