David Nerattini pays tribute to a watershed moment of hip-hop history, with tracks from the film that started it all, into 1983 and beyond.

March 2018 marks the 35th anniversary of the release of Wild Style, the iconic 1983 movie that introduced the world to the nascent hip-hop movement that was brewing in the South Bronx. Starring real-life graf writer Lee Quiñones as Zoro, and FUN Gallery owner Patti Astor as an uptown journalist, the film was the first peek at the work of first-wave graffiti artists like Dondi, Zephyr and Lady Pink, as well as an introduction to rappers like Grandmaster Flash, the Cold Crush Brothers and Busy Bee Starski. Rome’s crate supremo David Nerattini pays tribute to this watershed moment in hip-hop history with a selection of tracks from the movie that started it all, and the jams that rocked in 1983.
