Estelle gives Max Glazer a taste of the heavy reggae vibes on her new LP Lovers Rock.

Grammy winner and vocal powerhouse Estelle has told many personal stories over her illustrious career, but the one she tells on her latest LP, Lovers Rock, hits particularly close to home—it’s inspired by the story of her parents. After recognizing patterns in her own relationships, she noticed the subtle resemblance to that of her Senegalese mother and Grenadian father who “got together, had children, broke up, found each other again twenty years later, and happily married a decade after,” she says. On this episode of The Federation Sound, Estelle visits host Max Glazer in the studio to discuss Lovers Rock, her collaborations with the likes of Kranium and Maleek Berry, her star turn on Cartoon Network’s Steven Universe, and finding that celebrity sweet spot that has fans lined up around the block to see her speak but also lets her shop for groceries in peace.
