Carrying the torch for Jamaica’s reggae revival, singer Jesse Royal discusses his conscientious music and advocates for positive change.

Jesse Royal is part of a new generation of roots reggae artists making waves worldwide (the list includes Chronixx, Protoje and Jah9); like his peers, Royal is influenced by the classic superstars of reggae’s golden era, and he uses his music to push for positive change as channeled through his deep belief in Rastafarianism. He recently released his debut album, Lily of Da Valley, after building international buzz with a slew of singles like the massive “Modern Day Judas.” Royal talks with Max Glazer about his new record, his socio-politically charged music and the future of Jamaica’s “reggae revival.”
