The Major Lazer member stops by ahead of the release of his debut solo album to chat with Max Glazer.
We’ve got Walshy Fire stepping into the studio this week to run through the whole episode with Max Glazer. Born and raised between Jamaica and Florida, Walshy got his start as a member of Black Chiney, a Miami DJ crew known for their mixtapes blending reggae, dancehall, hip-hop and R&B. He eventually got tapped by Diplo to become a part of the trio known as Major Lazer, the EDM outfit highly influenced by reggae and dancehall sounds and culture. He’s a masterful DJ, MC and producer, lending his touch on production for “Throne” by Koffee and most of the Major Lazer albums. On his debut solo release, Abeng, Walshy wanted to support the musical conversation between Africa and the Caribbean — it bridges the sounds of afrobeat and afropop with soca, dancehall and reggae, and features a bunch of artists from each region. We’ll get to hear about his rise, his latest album and more. Expect a good vibe on this one.
