The UK musician and rapper breaks down the details of her meteoric rise, from North London out into the world.
There is a reason why rap legends Kendrick Lamar and Kano praise Little Simz, citing her as an inspiration to step up their own games. An extremely talented, relentlessly creative and hard-working independent musician from North London, she has released an enormous amount of quality projects, toured the world with Lauryn Hill, Gorillaz, Kano and many more, all at just 24 years of age. Little Simz fuses her grimey productions, razor-sharp bars and vivid metaphors with collaborations that bring in jazzy vibes, soulful samples and a genre-spanning approach. After dropping a host of mixtapes and EPs independently via Age:101 Music, in 2015 she released her debut album, A Curious Tale of Trials+Persons, to critical acclaim. A world tour and a second album, Stillness in Wonderland, followed. She has collaborated with Gorillaz, Kehlani, Mahalia and Jesse Boykins, and with her producer and DJ, OTG. Her third album, Grey Area, set for release in spring 2019, proves that Little Simz is a fearless and unique musician-producer-rapper, who unapologetically declares that “women can be kings.”
