Blending ’90s R&B with gospel and fresh club beats, this Philadelphia multimedia artist is a queer black diva for the cyber resistance.

Maryland-born, Philadelphia-based Mhysa is a non-binary multimedia artist and self-described “Queer Black Diva and underground popstar for the cyber resistance.” Mhysa makes music as part of the performance and sound art duo SCRAAATCH, and has had tracks released through African diasporic label NON WORLDWIDE. They released their debut album, fantasii, on Halcyon Veil in the summer of 2017, blending spacious vocal exercises with fragments of ’90s R&B, gospel, blues and bass-heavy, afro-futuristic electronics.
