Chicago rapper Mick Jenkins details his working process and explains the concepts behind his releases.

Mick Jenkins’s music is filled with poetic lyricism, vivid images and great melodies. The rapper is part of a wave of young, talented writers like Noname, Saba and Chance the Rapper, who experienced open-mic workshops with Brother Mike and Young Chicago Authors. After dropping his debut mixtape Trees&Truth (featuring the debate-sparking single “Martyrs”) he’s had co-signs, features and productions with Joey Bada$$, Ghostface Killah and Kaytranada. His debut album, The Healing Component, explored what it means to love, while his second album, Pieces of a Man, faces and evaluates human truths. In this Fireside Chat, Jenkins details his working processes and musical concepts.
