The week’s best new electronic music, plus a conversation with off-kilter house specialist Anthony Naples about his ambient-ish new LP.
After taking a little break for the holidays, First Floor is back, and although the calendar has flipped to 2019, the program’s mission remains the same: Showcase the best new music from the electronic realm. As always, host Shawn Reynaldo will be sharing all of the top new tunes he can find, and on this first episode of the year, he also carves out time to speak with NYC producer Anthony Naples. Once hailed as one of the leading lights of the so-called outsider house movement, Naples has quietly continued doing his thing even after that hype petered out. He’s continued piling up accolades, both for his own music and his label work (he was the founder of the now-shuttered Proibito, and currently runs Incienso, alongside partner Jenny Slattery). Late last year he dropped a new album called Take With Me You for the Good Morning Tapes label, which wound up being one of 2018’s most celebrated electronic offerings. Here Naples reflects on the course of his career, delineates the differences between his various labels and explains the motivations behind his latest LP.
