Iglooghost and Djrum
The week’s best new electronic music releases, plus interviews with high-energy beatmaker Iglooghost and genre alchemist Djrum.
With half the planet currently mired in a sweltering summer, we’re reluctant to reach for metaphors about dancefloors heating up — but these past few months have been absolutely stacked with quality new electronic music offerings. Each week, host Shawn Reynaldo highlights the best of the new releases, and this week’s episode finds him exclusively premiering a track from Marquis Hawkes’ upcoming album on Houndstooth. Elsewhere, he speaks with playful producer and Brainfeeder affiliate Iglooghost, who makes plenty of self-effacing jokes while also talking about the inspiration behind his two new EPs, Clear Tamei and Steel Mogu. Also joining the program is Djrum (pronounced “drum”), a stylistically hard-to-pin-down artist who discusses his arrestingly cinematic new album for R&S, Portrait with Firewood, and why he chose to fill it with “real” instrumentation and performances.
