UK hardware manipulator Karen Gwyer details her new LP for Don’t Be Afraid, and a survey of the best of the week’s new electronic releases.
Raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and now ensconced in London, Karen Gwyer occupies a unique position in the techno realm. While her early releases veered toward ambient and experimental territory, it’s the steady pulse of techno – a sound that she first encountered on the radio as a child – that has come to the forefront of her more recent material. With a new album, Rembo, dropping this week on Don’t Be Afraid, Gwyer talks about her move toward more dancefloor-oriented sounds and her efforts to balance that with her penchant for dreamy melodics. Also, host Shawn Reynaldo plays the best of the week’s new electronic releases and premieres UK shapeshifter Mosca’s new track on Livity Sound.
