Mr. Fingers and Efdemin
The week’s best new electronic music releases, plus conversations with Chicago house legend Mr. Fingers and Berlin techno veteran Efdemin.
Each week, First Floor showcases all of the best new electronic offerings, but host Shawn Reynaldo doesn’t stop there. Rather than simply playing new tunes, he also invites some of the artists responsible for making them to stop by for a chat. On this episode Shawn speaks with Windy City house giant Larry Heard, AKA Mr. Fingers, who’s about to release Cerebral Hemispheres, his first album under the Mr. Fingers moniker in nearly 25 years. A legendary figure who played no small role in shaping the early Chicago house sound during the 1980s, Heard reflects here on his return to the Mr. Fingers project, the difference between his various aliases and what it’s like to be regarded as a pioneer. Also joining the show is Efdemin, a staple of Berlin’s techno scene who breaks down his unique new album and mix CD, Naif, and the complicated process that brought it to life. Speaking of techno veterans, listen for a premiere off the upcoming collaborative album from Thomas Fehlmann and Terrence Dixon, which drops later this month on Tresor.
