The Berlin-based DJ and producer presents a personal selection for her time away from the club, from Portishead to the Bug and Coil.
Growing up in New Jersey and influenced by the hybrid sounds of the east coast, Dis Fig’s original dream was to become a jazz singer. But after peeping into New York’s club scene and moving to Berlin, she built up a career as a DJ and concentrated on what she wanted to do: Play and produce music. Her club-focused dark mixes consist of elements of techno, rap, grime, dubstep and noise, and sometimes sound like they are from outer space. For this episode of Headphone Highlights, Dis Fig presents a similarly diverse selection, as a “soundtrack to my time off.” Accordingly, the show reveals personal insight into Dis Fig’s record box and shows her deep interest in the trippier and darker corners of (experimental) music.
