The BPitch Control label founder and German techno figurehead selects eerie sounds from outer space, from Autechre to Alien Rain.
Ellen Allien is a DJ, producer, fashion designer and label owner from Berlin who’s widely regarded as one of the key figures of the contemporary German electronic music scene. She began carving a path for herself after the Berlin Wall came down and her beloved city opened wide to new possibilities, including the innovative beat — techno — that got the East and West dancing together. By the early ’90s, she was a resident DJ at clubs the Bunker, Tresor and E-Werk, and had started her own radio show on Kiss FM. In 1999, she launched the BPitch Control label, releasing music from artists such as Paul Kalkbrenner, Ben Klock and Modeselektor, alongside Allien herself. As well as producing and releasing dozens of remixes, mix CDs, singles and EPs, she has a host of studio albums to her name, the most recent being 2017’s Nost, a work which sees her signature techno stride into the future.
