The Japanese producer shares a globetrotting selection stuffed with inventive samples and field recordings that have influenced her work.

Qrion, the fittingly astral moniker of Japanese producer Momiji Tsukada, creates absorbingly svelte dance music, twisting samples into fractal melodies atop billowing synth washes. The 23-year-old artist, who grew up in Sapporo and is now based in San Francisco, recently released an EP entitled Trip on NEST HQ, and her remixes of tracks by artists such as Ryan Hemsworth have gathered as much attention as her growing catalog of original material. For her Headphone Highlights, Qrion compiles a globetrotting playlist of pop, hip-hop and techno, with a mind to artists whose use of samples and field recordings have had an influence on her work, prompting reflection on the musical encounters that have defined the beginnings and recent peaks of her career.
