From Japanese boogie to funk-drenched disco: DJ extraordinaire Sadar Bahar selects some stompers that define his legendary Chicago party.

The voracious Chicago DJ and record collector is well-known for inspiring everyone from Dego to Theo Parrish with his freewheeling selections of soulful disco. It’s an approach that he’s carried with him from seeing Ron Hardy transform the dancefloor at the Music Box. Despite a reputation for going well off the beaten path when it comes to record digging, Bahar isn’t elitist in the slightest, and understands the importance of blending fun with a dose of education. His renowned Soul in the Hole parties with Lee Collins saw BBE fashion a compilation dedicated to Bahar’s mix of sanctified funk and gospel, which opened the door for him to fire off a couple of razor-sharp edits. Whichever city he’s playing in, Sadar Bahar has the ability to transport dancers to a special place in mind, body and soul.
