The curator and resident DJ of Bogota’s young and already beloved Video Club gives Jackie House a peek into his dance music hothouse.
Arriving in Colombia only five years ago, Venezuelan DJ and producer Enrique León has wasted little time in shaking up the Bogota scene. León helped open Video Club in 2016 — perched in the Chapinero neighborhood, the club’s understated interior, Funktion One sound, and international lineups make it a favorite of locals and tourists alike. As a booker, he brings in artists who might otherwise never make it to Colombia, helping to expand the sounds available to Bogotano audiences. As a DJ and producer, known as Leeon or ELO to his fans, he favors darker, bass-forward house and techno with trippy acid patterns — those sounds also inform his recently launched Ediciones Danza Negra label. In this episode of Honey Soundsystem, León chats with Jackie House about his musical upbringing and shares the music of local artists who are close with the club. He also shares tracks from friends and members of the South American scene. Your host who does the most opens the show with a mix of his own.
