The Mexican-born DJ and producer details how he fell in love with the Motor City and talks about his label, Detroit Vinyl Room.

Raised on a distinctly Detroit diet of Motown, gospel, jazz and rock, John “Jammin’” Collins spent the ’80s flexing his knowledge behind the decks at the Cheeks nightclub (alongside Jeff Mills) before moving to the radio in the early ’90s as a mix-show DJ at legendary stations WJLB and WDRQ. His impact on Detroit’s techno underground has been even more powerful outside of the DJ booth however, as this longtime Underground Resistance member – he runs the crew’s operational arm Submerge, and conducts tours of its Exhibit 3000, the only techno museum in the world – has also worked as a producer, booking agent, manager and journalist. On his show, Collins takes listeners on a journey through slamming house and techno, velvety R&B, disco deep cuts and more.
