Mac DeMarco at Primavera Sound
The LA-via-Queens singer and songwriter brings his lush slacker rock to Spain’s premier indie festival. Recorded live in Barcelona.
With his debut album 2, Canadian singer songwriter Mac DeMarco condensed his indie rock influences, blended them with a beachside twist and some icy Lou Reed-ish casualness, to create a set of pop craftsmanship that immediately won him the ears of legions. Quite at home living and writing on the road, his relentless touring schedule is all part of the package, making DeMarco’s music and journey amidst the craziness of a rising career in a very public arena all the more fascinating. His follow up album Salad Days saw the same DeMarco touch spread across more breezy yet honest songwriting, blending synths and guitars to dreamy effect. DeMarco also reveals his creative process, with albums of demo versions that don’t just offer something for the collectors, but also gives listeners an insight into the weird workings of DeMarco’s musical mind in the rich and intricate detail.
