The Tunisian experimental musician’s set combines futuristic club music with a dose of the avant-garde.
Deena Abdelwahed has a cross-genre and avant-garde approach to traditional North African sounds, forging kinships with fellow Tunisian musicians like jazz artist Fawzi Chek-li, the So Soulful group and electronic producer Zied Meddeb Hamrouni (who introduced her to the World Full of Bass DJ collective). In 2014 Abdelwahed moved to Toulouse, France, where she bridges continental Europe and North Africa through her music and collaborative performances. Signed to French label InFiné, she released her much-heralded sophomore record Khonnar last year. In this session, she performs a striking set full of future-forward club rhythms in Austria.
