J. Rocc at Goodgod
The original World Famous Beat Junkie pulls a signature selection of reggae jams, hip-hop classics, and party anthems. Recorded live in Sydney.
One of the original turntablists, J. Rocc might be best known as member of the infamous Beat Junkies which he co-founded in 1992, but he’s done just as much on his own as in a group setting. Starting out as a DJ for California group PSK in the mid-80s, he has released countless mixtapes (including the seminal Soundbombing II compilation for Rawkus that perfectly captured the backpacker spirit at the peak of the indie rap hype in the late ’90s) and contributed production to various Stones Throw releases. He has been the DJ for Madlib’s live shows since the early 2000s, hopped on stage with Jaylib as the group’s inofficial third member, and collaborated with Madlib on Beat Konducta Vol 5-6: A Tribute to J Dilla. But most of all J. Rocc is a DJ – one of a kind. Able to please the hooded nerd as well the dancing herd, J. Rocc can play across styles, genres and centuries.
