The Future Times head honcho on his latest EP as Dolo Percussion, his fourth album as Max D and the many other projects he’s cooking.
Somewhat of a dancefloor iconoclast, D.C.’s Andrew Field-Pickering AKA Max D creates befuddling and eccentric club music drawn from a panoply of musical styles - house, techno, jazz, punk, breakbeat, R&B, electro, grime. The free-thinking producer combines this variety of percussive elements in a collage of spastic beats, rubbery baselines, and surprising melodies. He’s released music via his own label Future Times - that releases everything from R&B to house - as well as with dancefloor disrupting labels like The Trilogy Tapes, L.I.E.S., PAN, and RVNG Intl. Today, Max D calls in and speaks with Vivian about his latest release for fellow D.C. label 1432 R, his new release as Dolo Percussion, and an upcoming ambient-leaning EP as Lifted, his collaboration with Co La.
