Xeno & Oaklander
The New York electro-minimalists on their return to a more complex and dense sound on their forthcoming album for Dais Records.
Since their 2006 debut Vigils (reissued in 2011 by cult label Wierd Records), Xeno & Oaklander’s Sean McBride and Liz Wendelbo have been investigating all manner of analog synth magic, dark lyrical phenomena and minimal wave movements. Their forthcoming record on Dais, HYPNOS, again pairs Liz’s sensual vocals with Sean’s chilly, precise electronics, but investigates the more lush grounds of polyphonic synthesis while also exploring mythical themes (a departure from pruned-back sounds of their last album, Topiary). On today’s show, Xeno & Oaklander join Vivian to talk all about it, plus we premiere a new track of theirs called “Insomnia.” On today’s Peak Time, we’re also premiering a new harder faster techno track on the Lobster Theremin label by 90 Process, Vivian kicks out the picks and there’s lots of new music and music news.
