The NYC icon on the 35th anniversary of Wigstock, American drag history and her upcoming event at the RBMF Los Angeles.

New York City icon Lady Bunny is synonymous with the history of drag in America – she came up in the Atlanta gay scene of the early 1980s alongside RuPaul and Larry Tee; by 1984, she was co-founding Wigstock with other denizens of NYC’s Pyramid Club (then “the CBGB’s of drag culture”). Wigstock became both an annual ritual for the LGBT community and a spectacle for the curious until the parade ended in 2005. On the occasion of a screening of 1995’s Wigstock: The Movie and outrageous shorts hosted by Lady Bunny (February 10th in Los Angeles as part of the Red Bull Music Festival LA), we’re calling up Ms. Bunny for a deee-lightful and kitschy trip down memory lane to the present day!
