The South African art-pop singer explores queer identity, freedom and texture on his forthcoming album, You Will Not Die.

South African art-pop artist Nakhane creates expansive, bold songs that incorporate electronic pop, choral and gospel movements, highlife guitars and falsetto soul and R&B. All of these maneuvers are in service of highlighting the greater themes of his new album, You Will Not Die, which is an exploration of coming out and his long journey toward self-acceptance, artistic freedom and cultural identity. On today’s show, Vivian speaks to Nakhane about the album — released worldwide on February 22 — his influences, dreams and the incredible life experiences that have shaped his work.
