Best of: Aisha Devi, Haleek Maul, the Black Dog and Swan Meat
Interviews with musicians who find inspiration in a future world and push boundaries with sonic experimentation.
For today’s episode we look far into the future from the depths of the internet. First we’ll hear from Houndstooth associate and mystical nonconformist Aïsha Devi on her spiritually guided sound experiments that she describes as “ritual music resonating in 11 dimensions.” Shifting gears, we talk with the Barbados-raised rapper Haleek Maul, who favors lyrics spun from the dark webs of his dreams and works with overbearing existential dread as he reflects on the future of humanity. Looking toward grey skies, we hear from Sheffield’s the Black Dog on the latest explorations into the sordid cycle of disinformation, cognitive dissonance and the dread that is our current political climate. To finish off, we speak with the Cologne-based Swan Meat, an artist who looks to poetry and video games to guide her sonic voyages through the heavens and hells of synth patches and the chaotic order she maintains via a range of different media.
