DJ Earl adds ambiance to a jazzy footwork palette, expanding the boundaries of the style in the process.
One of Chicago’s Ghetto Teknitianz, DJ Earl got his start rocking parties at skating rinks with the Creation Crew before meeting Teklife titans DJ Spinn and DJ Rashad in 2008. Now a fully ordained footwork apostle in the Teklife crew, Earl has gone on to drop records on labels like Planet Mu and Moveltraxx and collaborate with the likes of Nick Hook and Oneohtrix Point Never. An artist who links juke and booty music back to footwork, his mix on this episode of Teklife is at once lush and in constant motion, often accelerating to breakneck speeds that leave the 160bpm threshold in the dust.
