The Teklife cofounder joins DJ Earl in the studio for a mix and an interview with Brooklyn’s Tripletrain, AKA DJDBK and DJ Mel G.
Following this weekend’s Fathers of Footwork Vol. 2 showcase in Brooklyn, Teklife co-founder DJ Spinn and Brooklyn duo Tripletrain come on DJ Earl’s show to represent generations of footwork. Though simmering for years in the stew of Chicago’s nascent scene, DJ Spinn’s frenetic 808 programming and deftly sliced R&B loops has turned into an epidemic, informing the trajectory of club music the world over. Alongside the late, great DJ Rashad, his impeccable skills behind the turntables, honed from years playing after-school footwork battles, saw them provide the perfect soundtrack for adrenaline-fueled dance mayhem all around the globe. In the second hour a couple of Teklife’s newer affiliates, Brooklyn-based production and DJ team Tripletrain AKA DJDBK and DJ Mel G, come through the studio to talk about their own breathless, introspective 160 BPM tracks.
