The Hyperdub experimentalist delivers a heated mix of leftfield bass and breaks, while DJ Taye premieres new tracks from the footwork crew.
After starting out in hip-hop, the dubstep bug bit Sara Abdel-Hamid, AKA Ikonika, hard in 2006. Disparate influences are reflected in Ikonika’s work: From the sweetly melodic to atonal clang, there’s no forced fusion of sounds but rather productions that move effortlessly. This approach has made her a natural addition to the Hyperdub roster alongside DJ Taye, who invited her to deliver a hard-charging mix for this month’s Teklife episode — her selections range from club edits of Clipse and Just Blaze to dancehall queen Spice and Tory Lanez. Plus, stick around for track premieres from core members of the Chicago-born collective, including a fresh track from Boylan and a listen off Mel G’s debut solo album.
