We take a deep dive into exotica-tinged versions of Japanese folk songs and find Sandii & The Sunsetz, Osamu Kitajima and more.

In today’s episode, we’ll be focusing on Japanese Exotica. It’s an eclectic style of music that incorporates different sounds from all around the world and fuses them together, creating something very unique. This fusion method has also been applied to music from within Japan, mixing the ancient tunes and folk songs of old with a modern sound. For us here in Japan, it’s not too often that our own music stands out to our ears as sounding especially Japanese. And today’s tracks have a mysterious vibe; they don’t give away their country of origin. It’s time to enjoy a broad selection of exotica tracks, from the 70s, through to the current era.
