Bavarian beat scientist and Academy grad Swede:art serves up a wild ride through jazzy sketches, ambient, and exotica territories.
Joachim Prügl may go by the name Swede:art, but he actually hails from Bavaria, where he grew up with dreams of becoming an MC, but eventually set that aside in favour of making beats. In 2010, he was a participant at the Red Bull Music Academy in London, and that same year, he issued his debut album, Emotional Colors, via the Tokyo Dawn label. Featuring the talents of Blaktroniks, Pursuit Grooves and Comfort Fit, amongst others, the LP was a compelling exercise in pixelated synths and wonky boom bap. Since then, his production skills have been put to use on a variety of remixes, including reworks of Jamie Cullum and Roots Manuva, Kidkanevil, Bomb The Bass and others. In 2012, he issued a split 7” alongside Austrian producer Feux, and he remains a regular presence on the DJ circuit, where he pushes beyond hip hop into a myriad of bass music and broken beats.
