Transmission #22: The Future Past Part 2
Digging deeper into his stacks for part two, King Britt selects bold, diverse jazz sounds that defy simple categorization.
King Britt looked even further afield while selecting his favorite jazz records for the second half of this Future Past series. Where part one brought together smooth funk licks and sultry jazz and soul sounds, part two is spikier, more diverse and experimental. Beginning with free jazz legends Sun Ra, Miles Davis and Don Cherry, the ambitious mix highlights what King describes as “the sonic territory that established many of the sounds of today’s Afrofuturistic flavors.” This expanded remit includes uplifting soul from Stanley Clarke, synth wizardry from Miroslav Vitous and the elastic, soaring riffs of the Mahavishnu Orchestra.
