West Baltimore’s drill captain drops by the studio to talk Rolling Loud, petting jaguars and his latest LP, Code Blue.
Israel James has always had creative urges — he first channeled this expression as an illustrator and tattoo artist, using bodies as canvas as he inked himself and his friends. But once he discovered rap as and became Bandhunta Izzy, there was no looking back. Studying the works of Chicago’s young drill artists like G Herbo, Izzy carved out his own lane in West Baltimore rapping about his favorite weapons, love for the homies and the lifestyle he was able to escape. On this episode of True Laurels, the 20-year-old rapper comes through the NYC studio to talk with host Lawrence Burney about his debut mixtape, East vs. West Baltimore, signing with D1 Entertainment and being given the chance to grow as an artist.
