Lawrence Burney runs through some of the most impactful raps from soundtracks to iconic films including Friday, La Haine, and Belly.

True Laurels is more than just a show. It’s a multimedia platform dedicated to providing on-the-ground reporting on local rap and club music scenes, opening up a national—and often international—dialogue. Every week, host Lawrence Burney seeks out artists, journalists, and other luminaries to tell stories that connect the dots between music and the communities that it comes from, exploring how the art reflects the social climate. With the understanding that music is a reflection of society, Burney brings those conversations to the airwaves and, most importantly, shares the most exciting music coming from artists in not only his home region of Baltimore & Washington, D.C., but in the American South, the Caribbean, West Africa, and beyond.
